God Provides
Notes from Ky Martin's sermon on Sunday, August 2, 2026.
Sermon text: Psalm 37
Job 30:21 "You have turned cruel to me; with the might of your hand you persecute me.”
Job 42:7 for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has.
God’s children should trust Him to provide, even when it seems like His provision is misplaced
Know and Do-
Know (Promises):
God provides for the righteous
"The possessions of the righteous, on the other hand… are truly useful possessions which are distributed to others and are not just heaped up." -Martin Luther
"By being heirs in Christ, they have solid right to what portion in this world God allows them, they have the use of such with a good conscience." - David Dickson
Evildoers won’t triumph
"Do not let it irk you that you have so little and they have so much… It is better for you to have a little with the favor of God than to have a big pile of goods… with God’s disfavor." -Martin Luther
God’s provision is eternal
Do (Commands):
Do not fret / envy
Commit, trust, and wait
"We refuse to believe these rich, powerful and comforting promises of God. When we hear a few threatening words from the wicked, we begin to tremble at the slightest threat. May God help us to obtain the true faith." - Martin Luther

Discipleship Questions:
- When do you find it most difficult to trust God as provider?
- Why does David associate fretting over the wicked’s success with our need to trust God’s provision?
- Do you ever struggle with anger towards God or question His care and provision?
If yes, are you honest with him about that in your prayers? - What are we commanded to do when we are trying to trust God as our provider?
- David says to “be still” as we trust God as our provider. What is the benefit and purpose of being still?
