Sermon text: 1 Thessalonians 2:13-16
The “word of God” (1 Thes. 2:13):
Comes from Scripture
Acts 17:2-4 And Paul went in, as was his custom, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, 3 explaining and proving that it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus, whom I proclaim to you, is the Christ.” 4 And some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a great many of the devout Greeks and not a few of the leading women.

1 Corinthians 15:1-2 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.
This same question—is the Bible the word of man or of God?—will largely determine the vigor and fidelity of Christians today. - Richard D. Phillips
1 Peter 1:23 since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God;
The Supper
1 Cor. 11:23-26 For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

- The “word of God” refers to the message (derived from Scripture) that Paul proclaimed to them. What are some ways in which Biblical truth is made known to us?
- What are the stakes when it comes to correct vs incorrect scripture interpretation?
- When Paul refers to his message and interpretation of scriptures as the true gospel, what does he mean?
- How does God’s word divide?
- How does it unite?
- How does it transform us?
- Can you give an example of how God’s truth has (or is) transforming you?
